Spanish-English Parallel Text, La sorpresa, Capítulo 6

Una idea estúpida

  1. Pilar sale del bar. Tiene que encontrar una solución.
  2. Normalmente, cuando camina tiene buenas ideas por lo que decide caminar por la ciudad sin un destino. Gira a la derecha, después a la izquierda, cruza una plaza, espera a que se ponga en verde el semáforo y vuelve a comenzar.
  3. Al final, piensa “Vuelvo a casa de Javier y si no está lo llamo por teléfono”. Son las nueve menos veinte. Es tarde y se tiene que dar prisa.
  4. Javier no está en casa. La única posibilidad que le queda a Pilar es renunciar a la sorpresa y llamar a Javier por teléfono.
  5. Pilar llama dos veces, tres, cuatro, pero Javier no responde. Ahora Pilar está desesperada.
  6. “¡Qué idea más tonta he tenido! ¡Qué idea más estúpida es tener secretos con Javier! He desperdiciado el día entero!”

A Stupid Idea

  1. Pilar leaves the bar. She must find a solution.
  2. Usually, when she’s walking, good ideas come to her, so she decides to walk around the city without any destination in mind. She turns right, then left, crosses a square, waits for a green light, then turns back.
  3. In the end she thinks, “I’ll go back to Javier’s place and if he’s not there I’ll call him.” It’s twenty to nine. It’s late and she must hurry.
  4. Javier is not home. All Pilar can do now is give up on the surprise and phone Javier.
  5. Pilar calls him a second, a third and then a fourth time, but Javier doesn’t answer. Now Pilar is desperate.
  6. “What a stupid idea I had! How stupid to have secrets from Javier! The entire day has been wasted!”
